First cruise from Mobile: questions and answers

Every cruise from Mobile is a Carnival cruise. Carnival Spirit sails until 29 March 2027 and Carnival Valor from 15 May 2027, mostly on 6-night and 8-night trips to the Bahamas, and every Bahamas trip calls at Celebration Key. The fare covers your cabin, meals in the main dining room and the Lido, and basic drinks such as coffee, tea and lemonade. On 4 November 2026 Carnival's page put gratuities at $17 a guest a day in a standard cabin.

These are the questions people ask before a first cruise from Mobile, answered from Carnival's own pages, the Alabama Cruise Terminal's site and the schedule on this site. Carnival is the only line on our Mobile schedule, so its rules are the ones that apply. We are an independent schedule, not Carnival or the terminal.

Which cruise line and ships sail from Mobile?

Carnival, with one ship at a time. Carnival Spirit sails from Mobile until her last departure on 29 March 2027, a one-way Panama Canal voyage that ends in Seattle. Carnival Valor takes over on 15 May 2027 and is the year-round ship after that. Nothing leaves Mobile between those two dates.

All 59 sailings on our schedule are Carnival departures: 17 on Carnival Spirit and 42 on Carnival Valor. The Carnival guide compares the two ships, and the pages for Carnival Spirit and Carnival Valor list every date.

Where do cruises from Mobile go?

Mostly to the Bahamas, on round trips that come back to Mobile. A smaller number go to the Western Caribbean, and a few long voyages reach the Panama Canal or the Southern Caribbean. These were the routes and lowest fares on 4 November 2026, per person for the cheapest cabin listed, taxes and port fees included:

RouteSailingsPorts of callLowest fareLowest per night
Bahamas50Celebration Key on every trip, with Nassau, Bimini, Princess Cays, Half Moon Cay or Key West$378$49
Western Caribbean6Cozumel on every trip and Belize City on most, with Roatan, Grand Cayman or Montego Bay on the longer ones$425$71
Panama Canal2Cartagena, then either a canal transit ending in Seattle or a round trip by Aruba, Curaçao and Colón$931$58
Southern Caribbean1Celebration Key, Amber Cove, San Juan, St. Thomas, Aruba, Curaçao and Montego Bay$1,203$86

The Western Caribbean trips on our schedule run from 20 March 2027 to 9 April 2028. The season guide shows what leaves in each month, including the gap in spring 2027 between the two ships.

How long are cruises from Mobile?

From 6 to 16 nights. Almost every trip is either 6 nights, leaving on a Sunday and back on Saturday, or 8 nights, leaving on a Saturday and back on the Sunday a week later. Our schedule has 26 6-night trips and 27 8-night trips.

Carnival names its trips in days, and the number counts nights. Its "6 Day Bahamas" of 22 November 2026 leaves Mobile on Sunday 22 November at 3:30 pm and is back on Saturday 28 November at 8:00 am.

There are no 3, 4 or 5 night cruises from Mobile on our schedule. The short cruises guide covers the shortest trips there are, and the 6-night and 8-night pages list every date.

How many days at sea are there on a cruise from Mobile?

Three on the 6-night trips, and three or four on the 8-night trips, depending on how many ports they call at. Every itinerary we read leaves Mobile at 3:30 pm and spends the next day at sea. These are the patterns in the itineraries Cruisebound showed on 4 November 2026:

TripDays at seaPorts
6-night Bahamas, Carnival Spirit, 22 November 20263Celebration Key, Bimini
6-night Bahamas, Carnival Valor, 23 May 20273Bimini, Celebration Key
8-night Bahamas, Carnival Spirit, 28 November 20263Key West, Celebration Key, Princess Cays, Nassau
8-night Bahamas, Carnival Valor, 29 May 20274Celebration Key, Half Moon Cay, Nassau
6-night Western Caribbean, Carnival Valor, 5 December 20273Cozumel, Belize City

Carnival Valor's 6-night trip of 23 May 2027 is typical. She leaves Mobile at 3:30 pm on Sunday and spends Monday at sea. She is in Bimini from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm on Tuesday and at Celebration Key from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on Wednesday, then spends Thursday and Friday at sea and is back in Mobile at 8:00 am on Saturday.

Cruisebound's pages for the two 8-night trips did not show the last full day before Mobile. Our port lists for both have no port that day, so we counted it as a sea day. Ports and times change from one date to the next, so check the itinerary for yours.

What is Celebration Key?

Carnival's own cruise destination on the south side of Grand Bahama island, open only to Carnival guests. Every Bahamas trip from Mobile stops there, and 51 of the 59 sailings on our schedule call at it. Carnival describes a mile-long white-sand beach, freshwater lagoons and five areas it calls portals.

These are the practical points from Carnival's pages on 4 November 2026:

  • Getting around. The walk from the ship to Paradise Plaza, the first portal, takes about 10 minutes, and free trams run on a continuous loop.
  • What costs extra. Pearl Cove Beach Club, for adults 18 and over, is a separate purchase, as are cabanas, daybeds and villas. Drinks are sold one at a time, and Carnival's CHEERS! package does not cover drinks bought at Celebration Key.
  • What to bring. Carnival suggests your Sail & Sign card, a credit card and some cash, and there is an ATM. Food and drink from the ship, glass containers and portable speakers are not allowed ashore.
  • Slides. The waterslides have a 300-pound weight limit and a 40-inch minimum height.

The Bahamas guide covers the other islands on these trips.

What is included in a Carnival cruise fare from Mobile?

Your cabin, your meals in the main dining room and the Lido Restaurant, and a short list of drinks. Carnival's page names non-bottled water, lemonade, unsweetened iced tea, hot chocolate and non-specialty coffee and tea as included, served in the main dining room and around the clock in the Lido Restaurant.

In the main dining room, menu items are included apart from the Steakhouse Selections. Carnival says you can order a second entrée, and a third costs $5. These cost extra, by Carnival's page on 4 November 2026:

  • Specialty restaurants. Carnival says specialty dining may carry a charge, and it adds a 20% service charge to specialty dining and other paid food.
  • Most drinks. Drinks not on the list above, such as alcohol, sodas, bottled water and specialty coffee, cost extra, with a 20% service charge on drinks. A 12-pack of bottled water ordered before the cruise was $19.20, delivery fee included.
  • Room service drinks. Carnival says charges may apply after 10:00 am.
  • Wi-Fi and gratuities. Both are daily charges, covered below.

Add parking or the ride from the airport when you compare fares. The fares on our schedule are per person for the cheapest cabin listed, with taxes and port fees included.

Is a Carnival cruise from Mobile all-inclusive?

No. The fare covers meals in the main dining room and the Lido and the basic drinks above, but alcohol, sodas, specialty restaurants, Wi-Fi and gratuities cost extra. Carnival sells drinks packages at a flat daily rate. From Mobile there is no wait for the alcohol package, because Carnival's day-two rule covers only its Texas, New York and Virginia home ports.

How much should you tip on a Carnival cruise from Mobile?

Carnival's recommended gratuity was $17 a day for each guest in a standard cabin and $19 a day in a suite when we checked on 4 November 2026, for every guest aged 2 and older. For two adults in a standard cabin on a 6-night trip, that comes to $204, by our arithmetic.

You can prepay the gratuity when you book, by calling Carnival, online until 11:59 pm Eastern time two days before sailing, or through your travel advisor. If you do not prepay, Carnival adds the recommended amount to your Sail & Sign account during the cruise.

The 20% service charge on drinks and specialty dining is separate, and Carnival says it is not part of the gratuity program. Drink and specialty dining bills have a line for an optional extra tip. At the terminal, Carnival says curbside porters are customarily tipped $1 a bag.

Can you buy a drinks package on a cruise from Mobile?

Yes, from the first day. Carnival's rule that holds its CHEERS! alcohol package until 6:00 am on day two applies to sailings from Texas, New York and Virginia, and Mobile is not on that list. When we checked on 4 November 2026, CHEERS! was $83.94 per person per day bought before the cruise, service charge included.

These were Carnival's prices on 4 November 2026, per person, per day, with the 20% service charge included:

PackageBought before the cruiseBought on boardWhat it covers
CHEERS!$83.94$89.94Spirits, beer, and wine by the glass up to a $20 menu price a serving, plus sodas, juices, specialty coffee and bottled water. Guests 21 and older
CHEERS! Zero Proof$35.99$41.99Sodas, juices, bottled water, premium coffee and tea, and alcohol-free cocktails, beer and sparkling wine
Bottomless Bubbles$14.38 for adults, $8.34 for 17 and underThe sameSoda and juice

Every adult in a cabin must buy CHEERS! if one does. It allows up to 15 alcoholic drinks in each 24 hours from 6:00 am, one drink at a time, and a package bought before the cruise can be refunded until 10:00 pm Eastern time the evening before you sail. None of the packages covers drinks bought at Celebration Key, Half Moon Cay or Princess Cays.

You can bring a little on board yourself. On embarkation day, each guest aged 21 or older may carry on one sealed 750-ml bottle of wine or champagne, and each guest up to 12 sealed cans or cartons of soda or juice of 12 ounces or less. Bottled water in plastic or glass bottles is not allowed. Carnival charges $15 a bottle to serve your own wine in a dining room or bar.

Is there Wi-Fi on a Carnival cruise from Mobile?

Yes, for a daily fee. On 4 November 2026 Carnival's page listed three plans: Social at $20.40 a day bought before the cruise or $25.00 on board, Value at $23.80 or $32.00, and Premium at $25.50 or $35.00. Each plan works on one device at a time, and Carnival says prices can change.

The Social plan covers popular social media sites and apps but not most other websites, email or streaming. Value is faster and suits email, browsing and news, but does not support video streaming. Premium runs up to three times faster and adds streaming and video calls. No plan supports Wi-Fi calling that depends on your cell network. A Premium Multi-Device plan for up to four devices was $90.00 a day, sold only online before the cruise.

A plan must cover the whole cruise, and you can buy one online until 11:59 pm Eastern time the day before you sail. Carnival suggests switching your phone to airplane mode and connecting to its Wi-Fi, so your carrier does not charge roaming fees.

How do you pay for things on a Carnival cruise?

Through your Sail & Sign account. Carnival charges drinks packages, gratuities, Wi-Fi and other purchases on board to it, along with state and local taxes on CHEERS! and Bottomless Bubbles drinks. If you buy a round for friends, their drinks go on your account too.

Ashore, Carnival's advice changes by island. At Celebration Key it suggests your Sail & Sign card, a credit card and some cash, and there is an ATM. At RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay, your Sail & Sign card works at the bars and gift shops, but the artisan market takes cash or a card. There is no ATM there, so Carnival says to withdraw cash on board.

What time should you arrive at the Mobile cruise terminal?

At the arrival appointment you choose during Carnival's online check-in. Carnival says everyone in your cabin should be at the terminal within that appointment, and online check-in must be done by midnight Eastern time the night before you sail. The terminal's gates open for embarkation at 10:00 am, and the ship leaves at 3:30 pm on the itineraries we read.

Carnival takes checked bags until 2 hours before departure. Your boarding pass has a Final Boarding time, and Carnival says guests who are not on board by then will not sail. If you arrive before 1:30 pm, you usually hand your bags to a porter and have lunch on the Lido Deck, because cabins open at 1:30 pm.

What happens on embarkation day in Mobile?

You drive or ride to the terminal at 201 S. Water Street, hand over your bags at the drop-off lanes, go through screening and check-in, and walk on board. Cars enter from Eslava Street, where a police officer or parking attendant directs you, and a stevedore unloads and tags your bags. The steps, from the terminal's pages and Carnival's:

  1. Check in online by midnight Eastern time the night before, pick your arrival appointment and put Carnival's luggage tags on your bags before you reach the terminal.
  2. At the terminal, a stevedore takes your bags and sends them to the ship. Keep your documents with you, not in your luggage, and carry anything you need before your bags reach the cabin.
  3. If you are parking, drive up the garage ramp, pay if you have not already, and park nose in. Walk to the glass doors on the north side of the garage and take the elevator or stairs down to the lobby.
  4. Show your documents at the door, then go through screening and check-in with your boarding pass, photo ID and proof of citizenship.
  5. Board the ship. Cabins open at 1:30 pm.

Guns and ammunition are prohibited and will be seized, the terminal says. Carnival also bans weapons, candles, irons and footwear with wheels on board. The driving guide has directions, and the terminal guide covers the building.

Do you need a passport for a cruise from Mobile?

Not for a round trip, if you are a U.S. citizen. The terminal calls Mobile a closed-loop port and accepts an original or certified copy of your birth certificate, plus a government-issued photo ID if you are 16 or older, though it recommends a passport. Two kinds of voyage have stricter rules: one-way trips and trips calling in Colombia or Panama.

Carnival Spirit's voyage of 29 March 2027 ends in Seattle, and Carnival requires a passport book or passport card on one-way cruises, valid for six months after you finish travelling. Carnival also requires a passport book or card on voyages that visit Colombia, and a passport book to go ashore in Panama. Carnival Valor's 14-night trip of 26 September 2027 calls at Cartagena in Colombia and Colón in Panama.

The cruise documents guide has the full rules, including for children and non-U.S. citizens.

What should you pack for a Carnival cruise from Mobile?

Carnival suggests no more than two bags per person on cruises of 6 days or longer, which covers every trip from Mobile on our schedule. Each bag should weigh 50 pounds or less and measure no more than 16 by 24 inches lying flat. Carry your documents yourself, because checked bags reach your cabin later.

The dress code in the main dining room is "cruise casual" on most nights. Carnival says cruises of 6 days or longer have two Cruise Elegant evenings. Ripped or cut-off T-shirts, sheer clothing, athletic wear and swimwear are not allowed under either dress code.

One rule matters on almost every trip from Mobile. Carnival warns that in some ports, The Bahamas and Jamaica among them, it is against the law for anyone, children included, to wear army-style camouflage clothing.

How do you get to the Mobile cruise terminal?

By car, taxi or rideshare. Carnival's page says it does not offer airport transportation for cruises sailing from Mobile, so you arrange the ride to the terminal yourself. The airport guide compares the airports and the ways from each, and the driving guide has the terminal's directions.

If you are driving, the parking guide covers the garage, and the hotels guide helps with a night in Mobile before you sail.

Where do you start if you have not picked a Mobile cruise yet?

Start with the full schedule, which lists 59 sailings from 14 November 2026 to 15 April 2028, every one a Carnival departure from the Alabama Cruise Terminal. If the dates matter most, the 6-night and 8-night pages list each length, and the season guide shows what sails in each month.

If the price matters most, the cheap and last-minute guide shows which trips cost least per night on our list.
