Mobile airport to the cruise terminal: MOB, BFM and nearby airports
Mobile Regional Airport still had Mobile's airline flights when we checked on 4 November 2026, and the Mobile Airport Authority's site named American, Delta and United there. The authority says its new terminal at Mobile International Airport, BFM, is expected to open in spring 2027. Mobile Regional is about 14 miles from the Alabama Cruise Terminal, roughly half an hour by taxi or rideshare, and Carnival offers no airport transfer from Mobile.

Mobile Regional Airport, code MOB, is where Mobile's airline flights land today. When we read the Mobile Airport Authority's site on 4 November 2026, it named American, Delta and United at Mobile Regional, and its flight boards for Mobile International Airport, code BFM, were empty. The authority says the new BFM terminal is expected to open in spring 2027.
Mobile Regional is about 14 miles west of the Alabama Cruise Terminal at 201 S. Water Street. Carnival does not offer airport transportation for Mobile sailings, so you get there by taxi, rideshare or rental car.
This site is independent. It is not the airport authority, the City of Mobile, which runs the terminal, or Carnival.

Distances and times come from two route planners that use OpenStreetMap road data, OSRM and Valhalla, measured to 201 S. Water Street on 4 November 2026. Where they disagree on time we show both. Neither counts traffic or stops.
Which Mobile airport has flights right now?
Mobile Regional Airport, MOB. When we read the Mobile Airport Authority's site on 4 November 2026, its Mobile Regional pages named American Airlines, Delta and United and listed daily nonstop flights to Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston and Washington, D.C. The authority's arrivals and departures boards for Mobile International Airport, BFM, listed no flights that day.
The Mobile Regional boards that morning showed arrivals from Charlotte, Atlanta, Dallas and Houston, and departures to those four cities and to Washington Dulles. Mobile Regional is at 8400 Airport Boulevard.
When do flights move from Mobile Regional to the new BFM terminal?
Not before spring 2027, going by the airport authority's latest word. Its press release of 21 May 2026 says the new Mobile International Airport is expected to open in spring 2027, and a release dated 23 October 2026, about road work at the airport, repeats the spring 2027 opening. Neither gives a date for the first flight.
The FAQ page on Build BFM, the authority's construction site, says all commercial air service will relocate to Mobile International, with the first flights expected to depart in 2027. Until then, it says, American, Delta and United keep flying from Mobile Regional, which stays open for its other tenants.
Earlier announcements were sooner. The authority's release of 3 July 2025 put the opening in fall 2026, with the first flight expected by November. When we checked on 4 November 2026, the authority's BFM boards showed no flights, and Build BFM's home page says the terminal is slated to open in 2027.
So for a cruise this winter, plan on Mobile Regional. If you book flights for spring 2027 or later, check which Mobile airport is on your ticket before you plan the ride to the terminal. BFM is on Mobile Bay at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley, just off I-10, and the authority lists its current terminal at 2455 Michigan Avenue.
How far is the Mobile airport from the cruise terminal?
About 14 miles from Mobile Regional, MOB, and roughly half an hour by road without traffic, taking Airport Boulevard east into downtown, according to the OSRM route planner. Mobile International, BFM, is about 5 miles from the terminal, around 10 minutes. The terminal is at 201 S. Water Street, half a mile from I-10.
The second planner we use, Valhalla, sends you from Mobile Regional by the interstates instead, on I-65 and I-165. That is a longer 21 miles in about the same half hour. The terminal's own page puts it 6 miles from the junction of I-65 and I-10, and the driving guide has its turn-by-turn directions.
How do you get from Mobile Regional Airport to the cruise terminal?
By taxi or rideshare, which take you and your bags to the terminal's drop-off lanes. Uber and Lyft pick up at a designated area on the southwest corner of the main terminal at Mobile Regional, marked with a Ride Sharing sign. The airport names two taxi companies, Modern Transport and Ground Transportation with Travis, and one limousine firm, Hunter Limousine.
Taxis and rideshares are allowed to drop off and pick up at the cruise terminal. Its rules charge taxi and rideshare companies a monthly access fee for doing so, collected by its parking contractor, Premium Parking. Cars enter from Eslava Street, where a stevedore unloads and tags your bags. The terminal's parking deck has six covered drop-off and pick-up lanes.
Neither the airport authority nor the terminal publishes a taxi or rideshare fare between the two. Check the app's quote, or agree the fare with the driver before you set off.
Is there a shuttle from the Mobile airport to the cruise terminal?
Not one we could find. Mobile Regional's transportation page lists rental cars, taxis, a limousine company and rideshare, but no shuttle service. Carnival says it does not offer airport transportation for cruises from Mobile, and we found no airport shuttle on the cruise terminal's site.
The terminal's fee schedule does cover limousines, shuttles and hotel courtesy shuttles that pick up passengers there. If you stay at a hotel the night before, ask whether it runs one. The hotels guide covers where to stay.
Does Carnival offer a transfer from the Mobile airport?
No. Carnival's Know Before You Go page lists Mobile, Alabama among the embarkation ports where it does not offer airport transportation. Its Airport and Pier Transfers page listed 14 ports when we checked on 4 November 2026, and Mobile was not one of them. You arrange the ride from the airport yourself.
Carnival does sell flights. Its Fly2Fun program books flights at least 4 days and at most 321 days before the cruise. Carnival says every Fly2Fun booking comes with free protection. If a delay gets in the way, it arranges another flight, a hotel or ground transport at no cost to you and tries to get you to the ship in time. If nothing can get you there before the ship leaves its home port, you get a Future Cruise Credit.
The Fly2Fun page also mentions Carnival's ground transfers, but those do not run at Mobile, so you still need a taxi or rideshare from the airport.
Should you rent a car at the Mobile airport for a cruise?
Only if you want a car for the days around the cruise. A rental picked up at Mobile Regional either sits in the terminal garage while you sail, at $23 a day for a regular-sized vehicle when we checked the terminal's parking page on 4 November 2026, or goes back to the rental company before you board.
Mobile Regional's page lists Alamo, Avis, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty. Mobile International's lists Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz and Thrifty. A rental makes more sense if you fly into Pensacola, Gulfport-Biloxi or New Orleans, which are an hour or more away by road. The parking guide covers the garage, prepaying and the overflow lot.
Which other airports do Mobile cruisers fly into?
Pensacola, Gulfport-Biloxi and New Orleans are the nearest alternatives. By the route planners we use, Pensacola International is about 57 miles east of the terminal, Gulfport-Biloxi International about 73 miles west and Louis Armstrong New Orleans International about 154 miles west. All three routes run mostly on I-10, the interstate that passes downtown Mobile.
- Pensacola International, PNS. Its home page says 7 airlines and 28 nonstop destinations. Rental counters are on the first level of the terminal at baggage claim, and its ground transportation page also lists ride sharing, shuttles and taxis, with taxi rates set by city ordinance. It says nothing about trips to Mobile. From Pensacola you drive west on I-10 and through the George Wallace Tunnel.
- Gulfport-Biloxi International, GPT. Its airlines page names American, Delta, United, Sun Country and Breeze. Its ground transportation page lists taxi and on-demand companies, Uber and Lyft, and charter buses, and does not mention Mobile. A rental car is the straightforward way to cover the 73 miles.
- Louis Armstrong New Orleans International, MSY. Its nonstop flights page says it hosts 14 airlines serving over 50 nonstop destinations, the widest choice of the three. It is also the farthest, at least two hours and twenty minutes by car, so plan on a rental car and a few hours to spare.
The driving guide has the terminal's directions from I-10 in both directions.
When should you fly in for a Mobile cruise?
The day before, in our view. Carnival's pages give no such advice, but Mobile Regional has nonstop flights to only five hubs, so unless you live in one of them you will connect. The ship leaves Mobile at 3:30 pm on the itineraries we read, and Carnival takes checked bags until 2 hours before departure.
You also need to reach the terminal within the arrival appointment you choose during Carnival's online check-in, which must be done by midnight Eastern time the night before you sail. The terminal's gates open for embarkation at 10:00 am.
On Wednesday 4 November 2026, the first arrival on Mobile Regional's board was due at 9:56 am, from Charlotte. Cruises here leave on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays, so check the schedule for your own date. Still, a connection that lands mid-morning leaves little room for a delay.
Carnival's embarkation-day article, from February 2018, tells cruisers to allow extra time for an unfamiliar city and for traffic jams. Flights booked through Fly2Fun carry the delay protection described above. To spend the night before in Mobile, see the hotels guide.
How early can you fly home after a Mobile cruise?
Carnival publishes no earliest flight time for Mobile that we could find, so work from the ship's return. The itineraries we read have the ship back in Mobile at 8:00 am. You then leave the ship, collect your bags, clear customs and ride about half an hour to Mobile Regional, which recommends arriving 90 minutes before a domestic flight.
If someone is collecting you, the terminal suggests they call you and arrive once you have cleared customs, because drivers cannot park in the garage and wait. For an international flight, Mobile Regional recommends arriving two hours ahead.
Check your own sailing's times on Carnival's itinerary page, and find dates and lengths on our schedule.
